Why I'm ditching the scales!

I attended Harley Street nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert's brilliant session at the Balance Festival last weekend and much of what she said resonated, but perhaps her suggestion to step away from the scales resonated the most.

I too obsessed over my weight every morning, initially for medical reasons and then because it had become a habit. If the weight on the scales was deemed ok in my head, all was right in the world.  If not, then it had a significant, negative impact on both my mood and my feeling of self-worth that day.

The snapshot the scales gives you is influenced by so many things, such as eating salty foods, water retention, hormones or just having a big meal the night before.  So go ahead and ditch unhealthy obsessions with the scales!

How you feel in yourself, how your clothes fit, how you look in the mirror and the compliments you get are all much more positive indicators of progress towards your goals.

Feel you need to wean yourself off them?  Just hide them!  Not looking at them every day can certainly help.  I'm taking it day-by-day, but each day it gets a little easier not to do it.   One step at a time...
